Sings That You Need Your Brakes Serviced

You should have your brakes inspected / serviced if:

  • You hear grinding or squealing noises when you press the brake.
  • Your steering wheel is shaky or hard to control.
  • Your car pulls to the left or right when you brake
  • You have to press your brake pedal harder to stop than you used to
  • You see the brake warning light on your dashboard

Even if you’re unsure about the condition of you brakes, it’s important to have  a certified mechanic look at it regularly. Even if you don’t hear any squeaking noises, you should still make sure that your  tie rods, ball joints, shocks and struts are in good shape.

Brakes FAQ

What are Brake Pads?

Brake pads work with the brake caliper to stop your car’s wheels from spinning. When you step on the brake, the caliper squeezes the pads together, which creates friction;. this friction is what makes your car’s wheels stop.

What Are Rotors?

Also called brake discs, brake rotors work with your brake pads to stop your car’s wheels when you put pressure on the brakes.

How Long Do Brake Pads & Rotors Last?

Brake pads typically last between 30,000 and 70,000 miles. Brake rotors can last up to 3 times longer than the pads, but it all depends on the environment that you drive in (city vs highway) and your driving habits. Remember: most braking is done with your front brakes. Comparatively, it is a 60/40 split; therefore, front brakes wear out quicker than the rears.
